Officer Roy Oliver shot and killed Jordan Edwards, 15, as he rode in a car with four other youths last Saturday night. The arrest warrant affidavit says another officer used his gun to break the car’s rear window before Oliver got behind the officer and fired several rounds into the car as it drove past.
The police chief in Balch Springs, Tex., claimed that an officer fired in self-defense Saturday night as a car filled with teenagers aggressively backed up toward him. He now says body-cam footage proves that an officer fired a fatal shot as the car sped away. “It did not meet our core values,” he said of his officer’s actions.
Police were answering a call Saturday night about drunken teenagers as a party was breaking up in the Dallas suburb of Balch Springs. Officials said a vehicle carrying Jordan Edwards, 15, backed toward officers “in an aggressive manner.” A cop fired into the car, and Edwards was fatally wounded.
