The Alabama Senate has unanimously approved Senate Bill 143, aimed at imposing enhanced penalties on individuals involved in criminal enterprises, Caleb Taylor reports for 1819 News. The bill, introduced by State Sen. Will Barfoot, includes penalty enhancements for felonies related to advancing the interests of criminal organizations, mandatory minimum sentences for firearm possession or use during certain crimes and the certification of individuals aged 16 and older as adults under the Act. The amended version of what was once called the ‘Gang Prevention Act’ passed with bipartisan support in the State Senate. The bill has now moved to the House Judiciary Committee.
