A local official in the town of Fairfield, Connecticut has been taken into custody after what one prosecutor described as “disturbing” information was found on his cellphone, Daniel Tepfer reports for CTpost. Raymond Neuberger was recently arrested for allegedly threatening to kill local law enforcement officials after he was charged for beating a cat to death and “dousing it with bleach.” Neuberger had previously completed a probation program for abusing one ex-girlfriend’s dogs and has been investigated for three animal cruelty cases involving the pets of multiple partners, domestic violence and harassment of another local official.
“We have an extreme concern on what was found” on the cellphone after Fairfield police obtained it with a warrant, Assistant State’s Attorney Andres Bermudez-Hallstrom told the judge. Judge Maureen Dennis echoed Bermudez-Hallstrom, saying she was “extremely concerned.” A police detective described in the warrant application that Neuberger sent him and other officers angry, threatening messages.
Eventually, Neuberger texted the detective: “You took my life brother. Give it back before I take yours.” He then received multiple messages from suspected “spoofed” numbers warning the detective to halt the investigation into Neuberger’s alleged animal abuse. A number believed to be Neuberger’s also texted the detective: “Just learned what a chemical burn is. Should I do it to all the cops?”
