A U.S district judge ordered last week that the Vincent Van Gogh painting “Une Liseuse de Romans” not be moved from the Detroit Institute of Arts after a Brazilian art collector sued the institute for true ownership, Duante Beddingfield reports for the Detroit Free Press. In a court filing Monday, the institute said federal law prevents the court from telling it what to do with the painting.
The Detroit Institute of Arts also notes the painting is not listed on the FBI’s National Stolen Art File. The court case will continue; another hearing in the case is scheduled on Thursday in the Eastern Michigan District of U.S. District Court.
