Progressive advocacy groups like Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the American Civil Liberties Union, Color of Change, the Movement for Black Lives, and others are embroiled in factional battles that are effectively paralyzing their ability to function, reports The Intercept. The pandemic-response virtual workspace seems to bear some of the blame, with groups spending their time locked in virtual retreats, Slack wars, and healing sessions, grappling with tensions over hierarchy, patriarchy, race, gender, and power. Some say it has resulted in an unhealthy environment where people expect an organization to be all things, even as so-called “cancel culture” restricts their ability to pursue reasonable dialogue and response on any one issue.
