Internal guidelines obtained by the Washington Post show that Facebook restricts gun sales on its platforms less punitively than offenses like child pornography and displays of terrorist images that prompt immediate removal on the site. The company allows gun buyers and sellers to violate the rule ten times before removing them from the platform. According to the documents, a separate five-strikes policy extends even to gun sellers and purchasers who actively call for violence or praise a known dangerous organization. According to research, gun sales on Facebook are part of a broad internet haven to purchase unlicensed weapons, primarily in states that do not require background checks.
