Two law enforcement officers working with the U.S. Marshals Service were shot Wednesday in Baltimore, and the suspect is dead, USA Today reports. The two officers, detectives with the city’s police department and Baltimore County, were serving an attempted murder warrant as part of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, said U.S. Marshals Service spokesman David Lutz. “Our worst fears became a reality when shots were fired and the two officers were hit,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said. One officer was shot in the leg and the other officer was shot in the stomach.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said the suspect was a former state corrections officer wanted in connection with a shooting in Pennsylvania. He said the task force officers were going after “a really bad guy.” The suspect was shooting at the officers from inside an apartment building.
