Jake Patterson, the man awaiting trial in Barron County, Wi., on charges of kidnapping teenager Jayme Closs and murdering her parents, wrote a letter to a Minnesota television station saying he plans to plead guilty and says he doesn’t want her family to worry about a trial. When asked by a reporter when he realized he was capable of doing something like this, he replied, “This was mostly on impulse. I don’t think like a serial killer.”
Asked by KARE-TV in the Twin Cities why he kidnapped the girl, Patterson answered, “It’s not black and white.” Asked if he had any regrets, he said, “Huge amounts …I can’t believe I did this.” Asked about his long-term plan if Closs had not escaped, he said, “Won’t say … It was really stupid though looking back.” Authorities confirmed that the letter was written by Patterson.
