A man who police suspect of killing a woman the same day he was released from an Arizona prison was arrested Friday at a Tucson hotel, the Arizona Republic reports. Police and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took David James Bohart, 34, into custody on suspicion of killing Marika Jones, 49, Bohart had been released from prison Monday, Nov. 19, and failed to check into a court-ordered treatment facility. When he didn’t show up, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Last Wednesday, Tucson police received a call from a man who identified himself as an out-of-state attorney, advising them that someone was either seriously injured or dead at a residence. Police went to the home and found Jones’ body with traumatic injuries. An unidentified a man called 911 on Monday to report he was just released from prison and killed his girlfriend. While searching the home, detectives found a Department of Corrections file box belonging to Bohart. Bohart was imprisoned in 2016 and had two previous stints in prison, on forgery and drug charges.
