An unhinged former Bronx-Lebanon Hospital employee who attacked his one-time co-workers on Friday screamed at his victims before opening fire, claiming they did nothing when he was forced to resign, the New York Daily News reports. “Why didn’t you help me out when I was getting in trouble?” Dr. Henry Bello, 45, shouted at one doctor as he riddled a nurses station. That was just the beginning of the 2:45 p.m. rampage that left one doctor dead and six others seriously injured. Bello took his own life 15 minutes later.
The shots fired from Bello’s AM-15 miraculously missed the doctor but hit several hospital employees behind him. The doctor Bello was aiming at managed to escape to a nearby hospital room unscathed. Bello had three clips for his assault rifle — including an extended clip — but it appears he fired less than a dozen shots during the shooting spree which extended to two floors, officials said. He had vowed to get back at his former co-workers more than two years ago shortly before he was forced to resign over accusations of sexual harassment. Wearing a white lab coat to hide his assault rifle, Bello was searching for a particular doctor to exact vengeance upon, but that physician wasn’t working Friday. He went to another, where he shot Dr. Tracy Sin-Yee Tam and another physician before going into a room and shooting himself.
