Vice President Mike Pence and Attorney General Jeff Sessions will speak to a “National Summit on Crime Reduction and Public Safety” being held the next two days near Washington, D.C., according to an agenda posted by the U.S. Justice Department. The conference was announced earlier this year as the Trump administration formulates its anticrime policies.
A plenary session tomorrow on DOJ violent crime reduction resources and strategies will include presentations by Paul Abbate, FBI executive assistant director; Thomas Brandon, acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, David Harlow, acting director of the U.S. Marshals Service, Anthony Williams of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand. Among other topics being considered at “break out sessions” at the summit are opioid addiction, police cooperation with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, “holding high impact offenders accountable” with a “GunStat” program and drug supply reduction and prevention strategies. The summit, being held in Bethesda, Md., concludes at midday Wednesday.
