Denver Homicides On Track To Make 2015 Most Violent Year Since 2010

A rash of gang-related murders and assaults is putting Denver on track to record its most violent year since 2010, says the Denver Post. There have been 17 homicides in the city in 2015. That is twice as many as at this point last year.

Gang violence gripping some neighborhoods hit a new high with last weekend's fatal shooting before a funeral procession, a local gang expert tells the Denver Post. “I've never seen this happen here,” the Rev. Leon Kelly said of a shooting occurring when funeral-related events are still going on. Nolan Ware, 22, was among the mourners gathered Saturday morning for the funeral procession for his great uncle, Abdul Rahim Muhammad, when shots rang out. He was struck and killed. Muhammad, 61, had been shot two weeks earlier in his yard less than two blocks north.
