Authorities are piecing together a chain of events yesterday that left a Wisconsin state trooper, a motorist and a bank robber dead, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The trooper killed was Trevor Casper, who graduated in December from the State Patrol Academy. Around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Casper was following a vehicle in Fond du Lac that fit the description of one being driven by the bank robbery suspect. After making contact, there was an exchange of gunfire that left both dead, the state Department of Justice said.
The gunman appears to have been the suspect in a bank robbery earlier in the day in Wausaukee, where he fired a handgun and fled. Authorities later found the body of a man shot to death along a road east of Wausaukee, possibly a victim of a carjacking. A vehicle taken during the bank robbery was found nearby. The state’s Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the crime spree and doesn’t believe there are any additional suspects at large. It’s been just over four years since two Fond du Lac officers were shot, one fatally, while investigating a sexual assault case.
