President Obama will nominate former NAACP official Debp Adegbile, now a staffer on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to run the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, the Huffington Post reports. He would replace Thomas Perez, now Secretary of Labor. Among many responsibilities, the Civil rights Division investigates police department practices.
Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said he “could think of no one more qualified or experienced than Debo” when he considered voting rights legislation this year. “He is careful, he listens, and he understands the importance of building consensus,” Leahy said.
