Facebook Shuts Down Pages of Groups Giving Away Guns On Site

Gun giveaways are popular on Facebook and work similarly to those used by businesses in other industries, reports Corporate Counsel. “Liking” or sharing pages or posts enters individuals into a drawing for free stuff—usually ammo or other gun trappings for firearms dealers. It would be a good marketing strategy if Facebook’s Terms of Service didn't list sweepstakes in the same category as advertisements. Ads on the site are barred from promoting the sale of weapons, ammunition or explosives.

The social networking site shut down the pages of at least five groups that were giving away guns, including weapons news site AR15News.com and gun dealer Pittsburgh Tactical, according to Vocativ.
