The federal government can be sued for abuse claims against prison guards, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday, the Associated Press reports. The ruling favored Kim Lee Millbrook, a federal prisoner in Lewisburg, Pa. who had accused prison guards of sexually assaulting him in 2010. Millbrook sued the federal government for negligence, assault, and battery, but the lower courts threw out his lawsuit. He appealed to the Supreme Court himself in longhand. The court accepted his appeal and appointed him a lawyer. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for a unanimous court that his lawsuit could move forward.
