Kids Drink, Parents Deny

Despite the fact that 52 percent of 10th graders report having used alcohol, only 10 percent of parents believe their 13-17-year-olds have tried drinking.

According to a new report from the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital Report on Childrens Health, there is a marked disparity between teens reporting alcohol and drug use, and their parents’ perceptions of their use. Twenty-eight percent of teens 13-17 reported using having used marijuana in the past year, but only 5 percent of parents surveyed thought their teen had tried pot.
