Rodrick Dantzler, who shot and killed seven people yesterday in Grand Rapids, Mi. before taking his own life, was “known to be crazy,” one nearby resident told the Grand Rapids Press. Neighbors and friends of Dantzler, 34, described as bipolar by some friends, say they still cannot fathom the bloody melee and trail of destruction he left in his wake.
Two women and a 10-year-old child were shot to death at one home, while another four people, including a child, were fatally shot at another. As dozens of people grieved outside both homes, detectives were still trying to unravel the motive behind Dantzler's rage. Friends of victims at one home believe a relationship issue, possibly with his girlfriend, was the motivation. A friend of the 10-year-old victim's father said he was told Dantzler “got into it” with his wife about another woman. “He just lost it.”
