A Kansas City jury awarded $6.5 million in damages to fired Kansas City police officer Danny Holmes in a wrongful-termination case in which he said fired in part because he is African-American, reports the Kansas City Star. Holmes had been branded as a rogue cop who botched a murder case. Jurors indicated they believed he was telling the truth when he maintained that he was only following the instructions of others during the 2003 incidents that led to his firing.
The verdict was thought to be the highest jury judgment ever against the Kansas City Police Department. The police department will appeal. kinds of judgments.
