AL Faculty Shooter Killed Brother, Questioned In Pipebomb Case

Huntsville, Al., police have filed new charges against University of Alabama Huntsville biology Prof. Amy Bishop, and new reports surfaced that she was questioned 17 years ago about a pipe bomb mailed to a Harvard professor, reports the Huntsville Times. Bishop was arrested on Friday in the killing of three colleagues during a faculty meeting. Three more were wounded, two of them critically.

There has been widespread speculation regarding Bishop and her reaction to being rejected for tenure last year. Her appeal for tenure had been denied months ago. She was in her final semester at the university. At the age of 19, Bishop killed her brother with a shotgun in 1986. Police had ruled the shooting an accident, but current Braintree, Ma., Police Chief Paul Frazier has questioned that finding.
