Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon today was convicted of taking gift cards intended for the city’s poor, the Baltimore Sun reports. Although Dixon was acquitted of a felony theft charge, her conviction could force her from office. The jury convicted Dixon of embezzlement for violating her fiduciary duties to the city and citizens of Baltimore by using about $530 in Target and Best Buy gift cards purchased in 2005 by developer Patrick Turner. The jury had been deliberating since Nov. 19, with time off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
