In 2007, intimate partners committed 14 percent of all homicides, and 64 percent of female homicide victims were killed by a family member of intimate partner, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ recently released report “Female Victims of Violence.” The statistical survey also found that children witnessed nearly one in four instances of intimate partner violence. Some good news: between 1997 and 2008 the rate of rape or sexual assault against women declined by 70 percent.
