One in six of America’s four million citizens on probation suffers from a serious mental illness. In an effort to help more effectively serve and supervise this population, the Council on State Governments Justice Center has issued a new publication examining the growing number of mental health courts and the elements involved in their success.
The report identifies 10 key elements, including linking probationers to community services and accurately accessing competency issues.
