Policy Guide: Mentally Ill Offenders and Parolees



A report from the Council of State Governments Justice Center’s Consensus Project reviews the research and literature devoted to best practices for community mental health workers and probation and parole officers who supervise the mentally ill. “Improving Outcomes for People with Mental Illness Under Community Supervision: A Guide to Research Informed Police and Practice,” addresses the disproportionate number of parolees and probationers with a serious mental illness, and provides ideas for how the criminal justice and community health system can work together to help this population.
