Expertise: A professor of economics, sociology and public policy, he has written books on the costs and consequences of the widespread availability of guns, and what might be done about it. He co-authored (with Jens Ludwig) Gun Violence: The Real Costs (Oxford University Press, 2000) and Evaluating Gun Policy (Brookings Institution Press, 2003), an edited collection of original contributions. His recent research concerns underground gun markets.
