In the last 15 years, the number of local youth and teen courts in which volunteer youths help sentence their peers has grown from 75 to more than 1,000, says the Global Issues Resource Center. The organization issued a report on what it calls a groundbreaking juvenile justice prevention and intervention program.
More than 111,868 juvenile cases have been referred to local youth and teen courts and more than 133,832 volunteers include both youth and adults who volunteered to help with the disposition and sentencing of juvenile cases.
