The gruesome murders of six people in a Memphis house do not appear to have been random. Jessie Dotson, 33, was arrested Saturday on six counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder at a home that was being rented by his younger brother, Cecil, says the Memphia Commercial Appeal. Police said that after a simmering argument, Jessie shot and killed Cecil, then attempted to cover up the crime by attacking three other adults and five children.
Like passers-by, neighbors said too felt a sense of shock at the mass murder, but, at the same time, a sense of relief that the killings were not a random act of violence or gang warfare visiting next door to their own homes and families. “It’s hard to believe that somebody would be that cold,” said Clarence Exum, a retired painter who lives across the street.
