The chicagocrime.org Web site is being closed and combined with a new site called EveryBlock, says founder Adrian Holovaty on his blog. Chicagocrime.org, operating since May 2005, offered a page and RSS feed for every city block in Chicago and several ways to browse crime data – by type, by location type (e.g., sidewalk or apartment), by ZIP code, by street/address, by date, and even by an arbitrary route.
Holovaty calls EveryBlock is the next generation of chicagocrime.org–more than just crime, and more than just Chicago. The site, everyblock.com, now provides local news from Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. It includes civic information — building permits, crimes, restaurant inspections and more; news articles and blog entries, and various items described as “fun from across the Web — local photos posted to the Flickr photo-sharing site, user reviews of local businesses on Yelp, missed connections from Craigslist and more.”
