Law enforcement authorities rounded up an estimated 6,400 fugitives nationwide during a three-month sting this year, the Justice Department said yesterday. The Associated Press reports that the round up led by the U.S. Marshals Service, dubbed, “Operation Falcon,” focused on 27 areas from Miami to Sturgis, S.D. with high rates of gang members, sexual predators, and violent offenders.
Among the fugitives caught were 300 gang members, 542 sex offenders, and 73 homicide suspects, said acting Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford. “Every single parent can appreciate the value of taking a single sex offender off the streets near their home or near their child’s school.” More than 1 million fugitives are wanted on warrants issued nationwide, said Marshals Director John Clark.
