TN Sheriff Arrested In Prescription Drug Diversion Sting

The pharmacy sting that led to the arrests of Williamson County, Tn., Sheriff Ricky Headley and three others highlights a drug problem that some law-enforcement officials say is growing: the illegal distribution of prescription drugs, reports The Tennessean. The problem of “drug diversion” appears acute in the Southeast, says the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent Harry Summers said the availability of drugs over the Internet, particularly from off-shore pharmacists had created a problem. Besides the sheriff, pharmacist Glenn Brooks, 69, the longtime owner of Brooks Pharmacy, was arrested on two counts of illegally distributing prescription drugs.
