After the Supreme Court rejected an Oklahoma death row inmate’s challenge to lethal injection, the man was executed last night, reports The Oklahoman. Corey Duane Hamilton, 38, was the first U.S. prisoner to be executed this year. He was charged with taking part in the killing of four restaurant workers in Tulsa who were ushered into a refrigerator and shot in the head.
The condemned man’s brother and another man were sentenced to life without parole. A fourth man was sentenced to life. Hamilton is the 167th person executed in Oklahoma, the 84th by lethal injection. There are 84 others on death row; no other executions are scheduled.
