For years, attorneys and courthouse insiders have accused Luzerne County, Pa., Judge Ann Lokuta of being rude, crude and verbally abusive. State investigators have now added wide-ranging allegations that could remove her from the bench, reports the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader. The state's Judicial Conduct Board filed misconduct charges against Lokuta on Monday, accusing her of violating six of the Canons of Judicial Conduct.
Among the allegations against Lokuta: She made an employee clean her home on county time; she slept until noon, causing delays in hearings; she arrived to work with unkempt, greasy hair and wore the same clothes day after day; she directed employees to lie about her whereabouts when she missed court, and she repeatedly harassed and belittled her own employees, while also developing a relationship with a current subordinate. “They're quite ludicrous,” Lokuta said of the charges.
