FBI Seeks Help On 2001 Seattle U.S. Prosecutor Murder

The FBI is seeking public help in its five-year manhunt for the murderer of Seattle federal prosecutor Tom Wales, reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. In the weeks before Wales was gunned down as he sat at a computer in his basement, someone noticed a man wandering around the neighborhood and contacted police. Agents said yesterday, the fifth anniversary of the killing, that they want to talk with the man and released a sketch in hopes that someone would recognize him.

The FBI also asked to hear from anyone who might know the author of an anonymous letter sent to the FBI in Seattle last January from Las Vegas by someone claiming to be a hit man hired to killed Wales. FBI behavioral science experts believe the author of the letter may have some connection to the murder. The letter’s return address contains the name “Gidget.” The FBI’s prime suspect, a commercial airline pilot, happened to be in Las Vegas on a layover when the letter was mailed in January.
