Former Ramsey Suspect Karr Freed As Porn Case Collapses

The legal saga of John Mark Karr may be over. The erstwhile suspect in the killing of JohnBenet Ramsey was released yesterday after a California judge dismissed child pornography charges because prosecutors didn’t have enough evidence, the Associated Press reports. Karr was extradited from Thailand two months ago when he claimed to have been with Ramsey when she died nearly a decade ago. Karr, 41, was then extradited to Sonoma County, Ca., after DNA evidence cleared him of in the Ramsey case.

The Sonoma misdemeanor case fell apart when sheriff’s investigators admitted losing vital computer evidence seized from Karr in April 2001 when he was working as a substitute teacher. Sheriff Bill Cogbill said, “We do acknowledge that there were some performance issues five years ago when we worked this case.”
