Today, on the 25th anniversary of the disappearance of 6-year-old Adam Walsh, President Bush is signing a law creating a national sex offender registry, the Miami Herald reports. The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act will authorize grants to help local law enforcement agencies beef up their registry systems, assign more FBI agents to Internet sex crimes ,and require DNA samples of sex offenders.
Adam Walsh disappeared from a Sears store at a shipping mall. Two weeks later, after one of the most intensive searches in Florida history, his severed head was found 100 miles away in a canal. The rest of his body was never found. No one has ever been convicted of the crime. His father, John, now is the host of “America’s Most Wanted.”
