A 1,440-bed private prison in Sayre, Ok., that had been virtually dormant for two years now has nearly 400 inmates and expects more soon, says The Oklahoman. The North Fork Correctional Facility is owned by the Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America (CCA); 95 employees have been hired since May.
“By the end of July, we’ll have about 500 total Wyoming inmates at North Fork,” said Steve Owen, a CCA spokesman. A new agreement calls for as many as 600 Wyoming inmates to be housed at Sayre. Vermont has sent 86 pirsoners, and intends to send a maximum of 250. “This is an exciting time,” said a prison official. “There is a lot of enthusiasm here.”
