Child sex offenders do not deserve a second chance, says Virginia Attorney General Robert McDonnell. Speaking in Culpeper, Va., McDonnell said sexually violent predators are the most dangerous of criminals, with a recidivism rate of up to 100 percent. “There is no cure for pedophilia and these people are inherently dangerous and are very likely, more than any other criminal, to re-offend,” McDonnell said. “And it's just a common sense recognition that these offenders have to be off the streets because there is no way to fully make them safe when they are back on the streets.”
The Culpeper Star-Exponent quoted McDonnell in the first installment of a three-part series on Virginia’s newly enacted legislation targeting sex offenders. The law takes effect July 1.
