A coalition that includes 18 of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. has organized to fight on-line child pornography by targeting credit cards and other payment methods used to purchase the material, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

The group — called the Financial Coalition Against Child Pornography — originated with Sen. Richard Shelby (R) of Alabama, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. Its members, which includes Citicorp, Bank of America, PayPal and American Express — intends to share information, issue cease-and-desist orders to offenders, and try to expand its reach to almost every financial institution that matters.
