Californian Support for the Death Penalty Remains Strong Despite Decline

Californians support keeping the death penalty on the books by 2-1, but the margin of support has declined in recent years, according to the latest survey data from the Field Poll.

The survey, conducted in mid- to late February, also found an increasing minority questioning the fairness of the capital punishment system.

A Gallup survey conducted in October found a similar trend, with support for the death penalty nationwide at the lowest level in 27 years.
