A 19-year-old Largo, Fl., man who authorities said had talked about wanting to kill somebody was arrested Tuesday on charges that he randomly picked out two college students to kill — shooting them several times with an AK-47 at a remote campsite, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Leo Boatman, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The students were found shot to death Saturday, a day after they were reported missing when they didn’t return from the camping trip. They were shot with a high-powered assault rifle.
Sheriff Ed Dean said it’s fortunate Boatman is behind bars. “The killer, in my opinion, is a would-be serial killer, if he wasn’t stopped tonight,” Dean said. “The person was a heinous individual.” Boatman told a friend back in Largo, “I went out in the woods and killed someone.” He added, “I went out there and came across two preppie kids and killed them,” said a police report. Asked what he did with the bodies, he said, “I tried to sink them in the water and they wouldn’t sink.”
