A Boston police officer awaiting trial on charges he was the getaway driver in a murder has a judge’s blessing to leave the state and party it up this weekend at Foxwoods Casino, reports the Boston Herald. “He’s going out partying on my dead son’s birthday,” said Margarida Lopes, mother of victim Joseph Lopes, who would have turned 24 tomorrow. “We feel terrible about him being allowed to leave the state.”
In a sidebar that interrupted another murder trial yesterday, Norfolk Judge Judith Fabricant listened to Baltazar DaRosa’s lawyer, Wayne Murphy, then decided to allow DaRosa the weekend pass. Lopes said, “To allow him to leave the state and go out and party is a slap in our face. This is devastating and we are still mourning.” DaRosa was suspended from the Boston Police Department without pay after his July 12 arrest.
