Suspects Released In Case Of Teen Aruban Disappearance

All three suspects in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway were released from jail in Aruba yesterday, reports the Associated Press. Joran van der Sloot, an 18-year-old Dutchman, and two Surinamese brothers, Satish Kalpoe, 18, and Deepak Kalpoe, 21, were released on condition they remain in Dutch territory and be available to police. Van der Sloot’s mother said her family had been the victim of “slander based on rumor and gossip. It is easy to destroy the lives of people, especially through the press.”

The Holloway family believes that all three young men know what happened to the Mississippi native who vanished May 30 on the last day of a vacation to celebrate her high school graduation. “The prosecution doesn’t know what criminal act occurred – acts which might be murder, kidnapping, rape,” said Arlene Skipper, an Aruban lawyer who has kept track of the case. “It is still a missing person case.” The three men have denied any connection to the disappearance.
