Don Bruce, a nightshift copy editor at the Middletown, N.Y., Times Herald-Record, got miffed after his house was burglarized twice in a week. So he set up a webcam that allowed him to monitor his home while at work. At 9 p.m. Wednesday, Bruce watched from work as an intruder entered his home and rummaged through his belongings.
He called police as a newsroom crowd gathered around his computer monitor, according to an account published in Bruce’s paper. The intruder had fled by the time cops arrived, but they found him hiding in woods nearby. The identification was made easy since Bruce printed an image of the burglar from his webcam. He turned out to be neighbor.
