Methamphetamine has arrived in Ohio, infecting rural outposts, big cities and middle- class suburbs and consuming thousands of lives, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Summit County and the Akron area are Ohio’s meth capital. Narcotics officers dismantled 104 labs there last year – far more than in any other county – and are on pace to exceed that total this year.
Law enforcers says Debra Oviatt, who has spent the last eight years in prison but is still known today as Akron’s “Mother of Meth,” is largely responsible. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Debbie got the whole thing started,” said Larry Limbert, a retired narcotics detective there.
