In a package of stories, the Raleigh, N.C., News & Observer tells the story of two young men with roots in the Bahamas who traveled to North Carolina to attend college, then lapsed into lives of drug abuse and crime.
Tamerco Cunningham and Claudis Caldwell arrived with great promise at St. Augustine’s College, a historically black school in Raleigh that is popular with students from the Bahamas. Today, Caldwell is dead and Cunningham awaits trial on a murder charge, in addition to charges of kidnapping, robbery and assault. The News & Observer explains how their lives turned.
