Frustrated by what she calls a federal failure to tackle border security, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has ordered local law enforcement agencies to meet tomorrow to devise a plan to fight the ills of illegal immigration, reports the Arizona Republic. The Arizona Department of Public Safety will run a half-day summit. Napolitano has ordered the agency to find ways to detain and deport more undocumented workers. She also wants to build a blueprint that local law enforcement officials can use to combat human smuggling.
State Senate President Ken Bennett and other top Republicans have criticized Napolitano for vetoing anti-illegal immigration bills. The governor hopes to stitch together a partnership between state and federal authorities to cut down on the massive costs of illegal immigration.
