The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) has created a Center on Force and Accountability. The unit will identify emerging trends on police use of force, seek out effective new strategies, conducct research, and provide technical assistance to law enforcement. It will be headed by Joshua Ederheimer, former Washington, D.C., Police Department Inspector and director of its Civil Rights and Force Investigations Division.
“We recognize that if there is a single issue that keeps police executives up at night, it is the use of force by police officers,” said PERF executive director Chuck Wexler. “Chiefs need to know the best approaches to managing use of force and developing systems of accountability, which is why we have created this center. The center will also underscore the importance of
establishing and maintaining trust and transparency with the communities we serve.”
