Prison Journalist Rideau Out After 44 Years

Acclaimed prison journalist Wilbert Rideau, tried and convicted three times for murder since 1961, was granted freedom Saturday night after a jury in his fourth trial convicted him of the lesser crime of manslaughter, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Rideau, 62, having served 44 years behind bars, was eligible for immediate release.
