Az. Paper Apologizes For Story On Slain Officers

The Arizona Republic has apologized for including a history of disciplinary actions against two Phoenix police officers who were shot to death last weekend in a raid on a suicidal man’s apartment. Yesterday, the newspaper said an article on the officers Tuesday “unfortunately has caused grieving family members unnecessary pain and it has stirred strong reaction, particularly in the law-enforcement community. The newspaper has received hundreds of calls and e-mails from the community,” including threats against the reporter and his family.

The Republic said it “regrets any unnecessary pain the story has caused among family members and police colleagues, and it acknowledges the story was inappropriate.”
