Advice From Detective: Don’t Call Me “Chief”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution runs a column by a police detective named Steve Rose. In his latest edition are some “common-sense approaches you might want to remember during your next encounter with the police.”

A sample:

“Officers really don’t like being called ‘Chief.’ ”

“Slowing down is not the same as a stop at a stop sign. It’s like saying you’re slightly pregnant.”

“If you place on your car one of those bumper stickers that say “Bad Cop, No Donut,” it’s best to expect a ticket.”

“Don’t point at your friend and say, ‘He did it!’ That hasn’t been funny for a long time.”
